St. Elizabeth Seton Parish Holds Old Fashioned Ice Cream Social
By Virginia Vollmer, OFS
What better way to spend a hot July afternoon than indulging in ice cream and socializing with parishioners? The annual St. Elizabeth Seton Old Fashioned Ice Cream Social occurred on Sunday July 28th. It was only the second social since 2020. The Seton Ladies have sponsored this treat since “at least five years” before COVID, they say.
Several decisions had to be made when it was your turn at the counter: which topping for the vanilla ice c ream? Strawberry or chocolate or caramel? Whipped cream? Strawberries and/or cherries? And there were wafer cookies too! Vanilla, strawberry and chocolate, of course. Carlene Cole, Michelle Rippe, Mike Waltz, and Jane Anger were behind the counter to help make the sundaes. And they were busy, but, if you noticed a break. go back for seconds. There was plenty to go around.
Then to find a table. Old friends gathered together and greeted new parishioners. All ages of the St. Elizabeth Seton family shared tables and conversation.
The parish youth were there to hand out popcorn and fill the air with iridescent bubbles. Ice cream, bubbles, popcorn, what next? Bingo!
Yes, the youth had fun at bingo too, just as much as the adults! I heard one young lady was pleased with her prize of a pedicure. Another was particularly fond of the number B-11: B-11, Be, Be eleven! Can you tell that she is eleven years old and proud of it? Fifteen games of bingo were called with prizes to Fry’s, Coldstone Creamery, Safeway, TC Nails, and McDonald’s. There were plenty of opportunities to win a prize.
Bingo may not be for everyone, so there was corn hole available. I wonder if there is a parish team, perhaps a corn hole contest in the future?
The two hours went by fast, as did the fun and fellowship. Now if only the summer could go by as fast as it takes ice cream to melt in the Arizona sun. Until next year, Seton Ladies, and your next event, thank you for all you do for the parish.
