Kids Newsletter: A New Way to connect with our Kids
By Deacon Sal

When Children accompany their parents to Mass, you will find them in various states of interest; laying, sleeping, crawling, sitting, and sometimes even asking their parents, “can we go now? The staff watched and observed. Fr. Williams and Michelle Harvey came up with an idea. They discovered the availability of a newsletter just for kids. We began giving these out on Easter. Now at the end of each Sunday mass from the 4pm Saturday vigil through the 11:00 am Sunday Mass a deacon will invite all children 12 years and under to come up and receive their very own copy of the Kids Newsletter to take home. And what is on that small, folded sheet? Depending on the week, it could be puzzles, fill in the dots, information on a saint, cartoons, articles on a special holy day, Mercy Sunday, or Pentecost for example. This is aimed at bringing our children closer to God through participation in something they can better understand. As Father Williams says, “God is Good All the time, and All the Time God is Good.”

SVdP Raffle for Scooter
By Kathy Boeck & Tina Prosenick
St Elizabeth Seton Church- Saint Vincent de Paul Conference
In February 2025, member Tina Prosenick, donated a 2024 Pride Motorized Handicap scooter, including an Outside Trailer lift carrier in memory of Joe Prosenick, her father-in-law. The scooter was ridden only two times, like new. The family donated the scooter to the church and our SVdP conference worked to implement a way to utilize this gift.
A raffle was put together to offer the well-cared-for scooter to members of our parish, for someone in need. Tickets were offered for $5 each or 6 for $20. Time was spent selling at activities during the next 3 months, offering our many senior members a better way of being active. We ended up bringing in just over $1800. The money received was destined for a renovation of the church update. Since SVdP utilizes the Parish Hall kitchen so much for events, the money was earmarked to be used for a much-needed oven.
On April 19th, the drawing was held with Father Abba blessing the scooter and drawing the winning ticket. The winner was Ms. Dee Urbick! It was delivered to her, and she was ecstatic! She now has this beautiful scooter to move around with!
Thanks to The Prosenick family for their generous donation. Truly a generous way to pass on a wonderful working gift!
And Who Is My Neighbor?
Tom Kalchik, Council 12144

In Luke’s Gospel, Jesus tells the parable of the Good Samaritan (Luke 11:25-37). He is responding to a young lawyer’s question, “And who is my neighbor?” As you know from the parable, the neighbor was not a priest or Levite, but a Samaritan, an outcast from the Jewish faith. Jesus tells the young lawyer, “Go and do likewise.”
The Knights are always looking for ways to serve our neighbors, as Jesus instructed. The funds from all events sponsored by St Elizabeth Seton Council 12144, go to serve our neighbors, be they close by in our parish or community, or farther reaching in our State, nation, or world.
We are in the middle of one such project now. Our neighbor parish, St Clement of Rome, does not have a Knights of Columbus council. It did have one a few years ago, but it was disbanded for assorted reasons. Several members of that disbanded council migrated to St Elizabeth Seton Council 12144 or Lady of Lourdes Council 11809 to continue their commitment to Charity, Unity, and Fraternity.
The appointment of Father Greg Menegay as pastor of St Clement of Rome has renewed interest in a council at that parish. A major principle of the Knights is support of parish priests. Fr Greg has appreciated that support at other parishes and looks forward to its continuation at his current parish.
The Grand Knight at St Elizabeth Seton Council 12144, Robin Clark, responded to Fr Greg’s request for help. Council 12144 has held membership drives at St Clement. It has also held some key events there, such as blood drives and distribution of baby bottles to support First Way Pregnancy. Council 12144 sponsored Fr Greg, as well as the priests at St Elizabeth Seton, for the Diocesan Priests Appreciation Dinner. Another membership drive will be held at St Clement of Rome in the next few weeks, followed by a Charity, Unity, and Fraternity degree at the parish.
These efforts are recruiting men from St Clement, along with St Clement men who belong to Council 12144, to start a new Council at St Clement of Rome to support Fr Greg.
