Brr; this morning the temperature dipped to 87 degrees. At first, I reached for a sweater. Well, it’s summer. For those that love the heat, be happy; for those that don’t, you probably have already left for cooler pastures elsewhere.
Here in the land of the sun we are thankful for Willis Haviland Carrier, who invented the first modern air conditioner in 1902. And it wasn’t until 1931 when H.H. Schultz and J.Q. Sherman invented the first room air conditioner. Bringing cooling into the desert brought the beauty of this land to all of us who enjoy the wild west today.
I’m sure your thinking, okay, so you are hot and we are not; so, what? What indeed! For all of us both here and a far I invite you to find a cool spot and an easy chair, grab a tall glass of lemonade, or your preferred drink, as we share with you all the HOT news in this, our summer issue of The Family Seton.
We have a new Bishop! Auxiliary Bishop John P. Dolan of San Diego becomes the 5th Bishop in Diocesan History. Bishop Dolan officially takes the helm on August 1st.
On May 5, 2022, Pope Francis Canonized 10 new saints. Read a first hand account from Fr. Gregory Houck, a Carmelite priest who was in Rome, for the Canonization of Saint Titus Brandsma.
Who ever heard of retiring at 89? Joan Richards, Funeral Ministry Coordinator hung up her leadership role after 17 years of compassionate dedicated service to our parishioners. We thank Joan for sharing her gifts of time and talent all these years.
