New Beginnings – St Elizabeth Seton Parish / St Vincent de Paul Society

By S. Jennings and Karen Boeck

It is special when one of our own members comes to the rescue. Several of our members are winter parishioners who help our conference while here. One couple, previously, full time Arizona residents comes to us from the East Coast and has done so for over 20 years; this year they decided it was time to move back to Arizona full time. After closing their North Carolina home, they joined us as official year-round members. Since driving here, and taking stock, they decided they no longer needed the car they had kept here in Arizona. Their 2007 car was destined to help the needy we serve through SVdP. Taken to Greenway Auto for a check-up, the car with low milage was found to be in very good condition, however, the car has a stick shift! This created a major problem as many have never experienced this feature. One of our neighbors’ needing transportation was identified as a good candidate to receive this vehicle. She had just started a new job in the admissions department of a local hospital and her current car needed major repairs, which she could not afford. Consequently, she was using Uber to get to and from work, which was quite expensive. The problem was she did not know how to drive a stick shift. Then, her daughter who can drive a stick, stepped up and said she would teach her mother. This neighbor is most appreciative of her new vehicle and is now better able to help care for her five family members.

We are so pleased to have Sharrill and Tom, as valued members of our conference. We thank them for joining us and for donating their extra vehicle to a family in need. Through the wonderful generosity of other parishioners, we have been able to provide a total of four cars this past year to our neighbors in need, and we are proud to have been able to help them in this way. Sharrill and Tom, God bless you and welcome back to Arizona!
