Catholic Daughters hold Annual Spaghetti Dinner

By Beth Lema

As the olde Italian proverb goes, “He who eats well, lives well”. Indeed, the Annual Catholic Daughters of the Americas Pasta Dinner encompassed this proverb to its fullest.

“One can never have enough pasta”. This was a favorite saying of my mother-in-law Mary. Our Sunday family dinners always had some form of pasta on the menu. There were different forms of Pasta every week, but they were always smothered in “The Family Sauce Recipe”. These family memories flooded my `heart and mind as I entered the parish hall for this year’s Catholic Daughters Annual Pasta Dinner. This fundraiser for the Catholic Daughters was a remarkable success, bringing members of the parishes of St. Elizabeth Seton and St. Clement of Rome together to eat, drink and share this event as one church family.

As we entered the hall, we were greeted by the intoxicating smell of the Italian meat sauce cooking on a stove. It drew you in as it filled the air and tantalized and immediately awakened your taste buds. The ambiance of the hall was charming, with Italian chef figurines placed on each of the tables. The tables were filled with laughter, smiles, and an anticipation for the feast to come. Fr. John gave the blessing and then the feast began.

There were offerings of water, lemonade, coffee, and, of course, wine. What would an Italian dinner be without wine?

As with most Italian dinners, the first course was a delicious salad and bread course with Italian crusty bread. The second course was the mostaccioli pasta in meat sauce with more bread. The pasta was smothered in a delightful, full-bodied meat sauce and topped off with parmesan cheese. This was followed by the third course, the dessert. Italians are known for their love of sweets, and the dessert table was filled with pizzelles and Spumoni ice cream.

After the dinner was finished, the ladies held a 50/50 raffle and a door prize drawing.

This dinner was a success due to its planning and the many member volunteers who set up, cooked, served, and cleaned up after the event was over. Kudos to the Catholic Daughters of the Americas for bringing this event to our parish. Fantastico Catholic Daughters!
